I have a document in which margins have become a mess. I would like to take data from the doc and move it to a "clean" doc in which margins are correct.

I would suggest Copy/Paste Special/Unformatted text.

Or you could Save As/HTML, then use a text editor to remove the CSS settings, save and reload in Word, but that would be a lot more work.

I've got nothing to hide, and I demand that you justify what right you have to ask.

You can paste it into Notepad first and this will "scrub" all special characters, formatting, etc. Then paste it into Word or other and re-format and fix margins.
