I have a couple of computers, one of which is having some bizzare display problems. The computer not working had an integrated video card and upon bootup the monitor (a sony lcd) shows nothing but a black screen, the monitor also will not turn off at this point. So far this is a rather common problem, most likley the video card right? I bought a new ATI 9600 to replace the integrated card and proceeded to hook it back to the lcd with the same results. At this point I thought it could be the monitor so I tried hooking the computer to another display (a Mitsubishi crt)which worked. Then just to be sure I tried a third display (a Visiontek crt) which, oddly had the same problem as the Sony lcd. The Sony lcd no longer works with other computers while the Visiontek crt does. At this point I'm stumped and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I cant think of anything else to try.

Yes, you can hear it go all the way through startup but nothing displays when hooked up to the Sony or the Viewsonic monitors. When hooked to the Mitusbishi, everything works fine. Funny thing is the Viewsonic works with other computers and the Sony does not.
This is the first time I've ever heard of a such a problem. Have you verified the pins are fine on the monitor plugs? Have you verified the cables are also fine? Usually when you can hear everything working but the display doesn't come up it indicates a driver issue, but in this case with different monitors its hard to say what it could be. It could be something electrical, have you tried plugging the monitor into another outlet or a different surge protector? Could also be the power supply giving power to the video. This is one of those issues where you have to pull everything out of the machine except the ram, the video and cpu and begin putting things together until you figure out what it could be. The only other thing it could be is a bad board.

Yes each computer is in a different room, and I have tried multiple monitor cables to no avial. I thought that also but why then would the Mitusubishi monitor work fine with the computer? This is why this issue baffles me so much as each piece of equipment seems to be working fine in one instance but not another. I do appreciate your feed back to this pointm thank you
I'm just as interested in seeing a fix for this as you. Something like this would have me pulling hair as I'm a tech and I couldn't obviously spend days working on this type of issue. In the end I'd have to recommend to start replacing parts until something worked. And thats no fun unless you have a lot of money to figure out the problem.
