I have a Dell Dimension 8250 with 2.4Mhz Pentium 4, 256Mb RDRAM, MS WinXP Pro SP1 with a Conexant SmartHSFi V92 56K DF PCI Modem. Until two days ago, my connections were in the neighborhood of 50-54Kbps. Now I cannot manage to exceed 26.4-28.8Kbps.

I've tried:
- reinstalling the modem driver
- reinstalling my Dial-up connections
- system restore to last week
- dialing other numbers at my ISP
- dialing to a free ISP
- CyberTweak 1.0
- CryptonX's tweak (couldn't find the driver he suggested)

and nothing gets me my (relative) speed back.

Any other ideas out there?

Now I'm just plain pissed! SBC finally got around to switching my service from AT&T, but didn't bother to tell me. I just found their handiwork at my service entrance, reversed it for the modem line, and I'm back at 50.6 Mbps.

Thank goodness I didn't get a chance to tell AT&T to go away. They may get to keep my business!
