i have a dell dimension 4100 running windows me with 256k of memory. i just purchased a canon N670U(usb powered thru the cable) scanner. my system recognizes the new hardware and installs it. however when i try to install the drivers the the drivers won't install. the add new hardware screen freezes.
i had a problem a few weeks ago with the nimda virus.i thought my virus software caught it all though it didn't--it resulted in my not being able to download files. however a fix i found on this site (a registry edit) took care of that. perhaps it is related. any thoughts anyone?

I only have experience with the HP scanner, but I had to install the software before plugging the usb cable into the pc. After the software install, I shut down, plug the scanner in and then power up. Windows then sees the scanner. Good luck.
