I have various bitmap images that I want as my toolbar item pictures for my menu. However when I select one of them, and preview the menu, the bitmap image is to large and you can't see the whole bitmap.

How do I modify this bitmap(which software package) so it appears the same size as the stock pictures tha come with PB. I'm using PB 6.5.

Does the bitmap have to be an icon? How can I create an icon from a bitmap?

Thanks,

Keith

Hi,

You can use the Image Editor from Sybase/Powersoft (it gets installed when you install PowerBuilder). In fact, many of us know neither its powerful features nor its existence.

Image Editor can create/edit Bitmaps, Icons and Cursors, too!! It does have a "Capture" feature using which you can capture images from the screen into the layout. You may open your image and then capture it from the Image Editor.

I've tried to use the Image Editor but I've been unable to properly reduce its size like the ones found in the stock pictures in PB.

Do you know how I can accomplish this? Or are there already available .bmp's somewhere on the web where I don't have to create new one's?

Hi,

It is not difficult to resize an image using tools such as PhotoEditor, Paint, ... Once you resize, you may copy and paste it into the ImageEditor/PhotoEditor/Paint... as a new file and save it. After you resize the image, you may copy the entire screen into Clipboard using Alt+PrntScrn button and paste it into a new file in an image editor. You may then select/cut/copy just your image on the file and paste it into another new file. ImageEditor does have some unique features that other editors lack.

If you would like to grab images stored inside .EXE and .DLL files, you may try tools such as IconJack... available on (Utilities), ... Using IconJack, if you rummage through the Windows folder and its DLLs, you can get/crack all the Microsoft images/icons.
