I have a big problem

I just got a client using an old version of Informix via Lantastic network. Apparently the Owner of the business was somewhat computer savy but has since passed away. The business has been merrily running along until a lightning strike disabled (killed) the server. No one can find the original software and they are currently using a new product for their DB needs. I was able to locate a backup of the data files (i.e. *.dat and *.idx). Is there ANY way to extract this data without an Informix server? ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!
