My first one shows 189 gb which sounds right but my second only shows 36 gb what do i have to do so win xp pro can recognize my full 200 gb hd??

Swap the drives around (both cable and master/slave jumpers). Boot into BIOS and see if you still get the different readings on the respective drives. This will tell you if you are fighting a drive problem or a system/IDE port problem.

Also check the jumper settings on 'small' drive - some have a limiter setting for backward compatibility with older mobos.

btw - is it showing up as 30 odd GB in XP's disk management, bios or both?

As the others have said, check the size in the BIOS. If it's the correct size, then you have a format problem of the file system. XP has a limitation to the size it can format FAT32 partitions. If you formatted from XP and need FAT32 over NTFS, then use a Win98 boot disk and reformat the drive that way.

Otherwise, go with NTFS which doesn't have a limitation from within XP.
