I got hit with a virus this afternoon and my computer has slowed way down. I've rebooted a few times - deleted some processes because my CPU was pegged. I'm lucky to have this browser up. My icons are not showing and everything is so slow. Not sure if I can download any anti-virus software. I have a spy-sweeper checking things out now...that's going slow itself.

Any advice?

Hey there IronRocket,

It is always advisable to boot into safe mode when trouble shooting virus issues.

To boot into safe mode with networking Tap the F8 key on your keyboard when you boot until you get a boot options menu.

Once into safe mode with networking, I would browse to some a/v scanning sites such as

or

but it's important to be nice :)

And if you can get it, you might want to try the DrWeb LiveCD. If you can download it, burn it to disk, then boot from it, it may can wipe out at least enough of the issue(s) without even logging into Windows.

(free)

They also have the free CureIt program as well, but the CD will run outside of Windows - so that way nothing CAN startup. [wink]
