i have a problem. i can't get one our office computer to have regular mac address such as "00-20-BF-3F-00-00" for example. i have used diffrent nics but to no avail. it is always ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff. i can't have this computer connected to the network.

help anyone?

thnx in adv.

what type of NIC?
what operating system?
MADGE adaptors have a afcility to change the MAC address If in doubt get the Ball Pein Hammer out

All F's is not a valid mac address. It is a broadcast address. You have a faulty nic card if that is what it is sending as its MAC address. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

thank you rfeenie and shnypr for your reply.

yes i've changed the nic couple of times with name brand nic but did not work.

i found the resolution by changing the motherboard. the faulty motherboard was working fine with everything except the nic cards.

but the workstation is working find now.

i hope this could help other admins and techs.

regards,
