I failed miserably to create backgroundless GIF with PSP

I've spent several days trying to figure out how to make simple black-and-white seal logo become transparent (lose background) to be able to "stamp" it on pictures as "signature". The logo is round seal with two circles inside of each other, and some text within and then a picture in the center. All done in black ink and white background everywhere. I check colours and it says it has 63 or 64 colours. I took every single step with evaluation versions of GIMP, and Paint Shop Pro as per the following instructions (I made sure I followed everything that he suggests):

I also tried to "strip" his own smiley (provided on that page) off the blue colour and failed as well.

It seems simple, but it fails to create a gif that has transparent background. I post the "transparent" logo on another image and it still has the rectangular white background.

Am really devastated how such a simple task has to be so time-consuming and so difficult to achieve. Isn't there a software that just does that?

Any ideas and help? Is there a software that succeeds to accomplish this task easily?

That tutorial is a little dated, and doesn't actually save the transparency, in later version of PSP. But I gather you problem may be more of how you are actually pasting your logo onto your file rather than the actual creation.

Depending on the version of PSP you are using it may be a little different but:


1. Open your logo file.

2. Go to File->Export->GIF Optimizer

3. In the transparency Tab check "Areas that Match this color"

4. using your mouse click on any white area of your image. You may need to move the window so you can see your image.

5. You'll see the image on the right loose all the areas of that color. They will be replaced by a checkerboard (white and gay) pattern. That means they re transparent.

6. Click O.K. and it will automatically let you save the image.

Now the image is transparent.
