I experienced a problem about a week ago when a knumbskull here decided to corrupt the firewall access lists, and basically block all external mail going out from Exchange, or should I say messages were disappearing into thin air!
It just so happened I had another box built ready to go live for some load balancing and resillience as another mailsweeper gateway.
Now because the IP address of the original server is lost in a corrupt file on the firewall, I had to route all outgoing email to the original box (ip 213.1) then to the new box (ip 213.2) then out to the big fluffy internet cloud.
The problem I have is now all emails containing excel encrypted spreadsheets are vanishing into thin air, no delivery receipts coming back and no non-delivery reports. Other attachments are reaching external recipients without any problems, no settings have changed on the original box, except it's now forcing all outgoing mail to the second box. The second box is just acting as a gateway to the internet not scanning emails and not placing any in holding or quarentine.
Has anyone got any ideas?
