I.E. 6.0 NOT RECOGNIZED AS 6.0??????

Hello,

I need anyone's opinion. I have seen at (recently....past couple of weeks) certain sites a message which states I need to run 4.0 or higher?! I run 6.0 w/ XP. I've tried to install some updates and I am told (when launched) that the updates are for 6.0?! What Gives? Specific sites and exe upgrades tell me I am running an old version of IE?

I have seen this posted from place to place w/o any input, particularly at the ms site.
