I have limited knowledge about the WCS part of Crystal. But have a problem that I hope someone might be able to help me with. We are running Crystal 8.0

A consultant set up a WCS for us on a NT 4.0 server a couple of years ago. Most of our workstations are NT 4.0 using I.E. 5.0 thru 5.5. We now have a few new PC's running W2K with I.E. 6.0.

Usually the first time we go to the IP address for the WCS a Java Plug-In screen will pop up and ask if we wish to install the Plug-In. After this initial install, reports run properly.

One of our new W2K PC's running I.E. 6.0 does not offer this choice. While we can open the reports, the icons that are usually available to print, refresh, view etc are not showing up and the report does nothing.

I've searched around (Microsoft,Crystal Decisions and Java) to find a java plug-in to download but all I can seem to find is the full blown version. After installing that I am getting error messages!!??

My consultant has spent as much time as I have and now tells me that Crystal says it is a known issue.

I would appreciate any thoughts on my problem?

Thanks,
Jill

Hi,
Not sure if it will help, but try this:
Right-click IE Icon, choose Properties.
Under 'Temporary Internet Files', choose Settings.
On That tab, choose 'View Objects' -
In ANY objects exist that are listed as undefined/unknown status, delete them, and also delete any that refer to
Crystal Reports ( especially any Viewers)..

After doing that and deleting any temporary files in the cache, go back to the web site and you should be prompted to install the viewer.

Thanks for your response.

I didn't find anything in 'View Objects' that was retlated to Crystal nor any objects with a 'undefined/unknown status'. I did clear the temporary files.

Still no luck.

Thanks Again.

Hi,
Sorry...

BTW, why use the Java plugin with IE instead of ActiveX...

I'm not sure why he chose java. Does it need to be Java on all PC's since the server is set up that way?

Thanks,

Jill
