I can't open eps files in indesign

Hello I am a newbee in the indesign ,
I tried to open few of my ilustrater eps files in indesign cs2 but i get a massage stating "Cannot open the filexxxxx.eps adobe indesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application. The file is not open in another application"
What is wrong

Are you choosing to PLACE or OPEN the EPS file? There is a big difference.

InDesign was never meant to OPEN eps files. They are a graphic format and so can only be opened in a graphic program. However, you can PLACE the eps files in your ID layout.

You could try opening the eps file in Illustrator and simply copying and pasting it into Indesign – it may even be editable in Indesign, depending on how complicated it is, as it supports paths and transparencies.

I think Jim and Eggles are right -- you're probably trying to "Open" the EPS file. Instead, go to FILE > PLACE... and insert the EPS file that way.
