After I format my hard drive using NTFS format setup tests the disk and immediately says my drive is corupt and can't continue installation. I have two drives in this new system so I swapped drives, same thing. Someone mentioned a ATA 100 problem with Win 2000. Can someone specify what I need to do? Thanks!

Is that the only partition on that particular drive? You deleted the previous partition, created a new partition, and reformatted using using the Win2K setup disks right? NOT the NT4.0 disks...?

I think you did something wrong in formatting and/or installing if it happened to two different drives one after the other, this is what I would do, download your hard drives installation utilities, and run it to check the drives, it may just be a formatting problem (you can only format 4gig under NTFS for setup to work, then you can format the rest in NTFS after install), clear up everything, I would use the hd installation utility to partition and format (takes approx 4 min on a 60gig drive) then start win2000 installation. If you got this far and you still get corruption, start over and install under fat32 then convert the drive to NTFS after installation.

PS. unless you need file protection/security/compression, why not go with fat32, faster, easier, etc. lots of other good reasons.

That 4GB format barrier is only present when using NTFS4. Windows 2000 NTFS5 can format any size drive in use today without needing the ATAPI update which is what you'd have to use with the NT4.0 floppies.

Im suspecting DDcats used the NT4.0 (NTFS4) setup disks to format, and then tried installing Windows2000(NTFS5). Windows 2000 does not support upgrading Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0 by booting from the Windows 2000 Setup floppy disks or CD-ROM. If you are trying to upgrade - boot to the operating system you want to upgrade, and run Winnt32.exe from the CDROM.
