I can't get my SNMP trap service to start. System keep saying service was not found in the path. Any ideas?

Have you installed the SNMP protocol for the server? (Hint: For NT 4, you will have to re-apply service packs such as sp6a. SNMP installs from the original I386 cab files which will over write the more recent files)

Are you working with CIM 7 or 5.x? Are you using IPX or TCPIP?

Due to licensing and hardware, my experience if with CIM 5.x and earlier.

IPX (Novell) uses auto discovery whereas with IP, you either have to run a manual scan of IP addresses, or manually enter the IP address of the device or devices.

Once you have "added" the device, you should see it in your list.

I have hundreds of devices in my list -- added and dropped devices over the years. Once or twice, I added a device that would not "take". I would "add" the device but it would be visible. Add it again, but still no success. This is one or two devices out of hundreds. I always attributed this issue with a problem with the agents loaded on the target device, and the fact that earlier versions of CIM were designed specifically for Servers, preferably Compaq servers.

I understand the newer version of CIM area lot more flaxible.
