Help!

I am new to Cisco and we have purchased 4 3548s and I have walked through the basic config, saved it, but I cannot ping the switch and when I try to open up any port, by using "no shutdown", it says up, then right back down.

I am sure it is something simple I am missing, but I cannot figure it out.

Are these ports plugged into anything? Is the switch running CatOS? You will only be able to ping the supervisor engine if you give the switch an IP, or the gateway for the vlan that you have defined...
