When I went to defragment my C Drive..... got the message that it is Write Protected. My D Drive is ok. I desperately need to defragment my C Drive now. This problem happened without me doing it. How do I Remove the Write Protected feature?

Rnf;

Log in as Administrator. Open MyComputer. Right click on the C drive and select properties. Select the Security tab and make sure that all permissions are allowed.

Thankyou Ed for your reply. I think I am in the wrong Forum.

I use Windows98.

evidentally the properties on C Drive does not have a Security tab.

If you have any more suggestions ,,,,, I would appreciate it.

Rnf,
Yes, any posts in this forum are under the assumption that the posters are using Win2K.

Since you have 98, you have a couple different options:
1) Use CTRL-ALT-DEL and end task on everything except Explorer. Also, disable your screensaver and power management (auto standby). Then try to defrag again.

2) Reboot to safe mode and repeat step 1.

Good luck!! [thumbsup2]
