Hi, our Mac guy is off this week and I’ve run into a problem.

First, some details:

* Our file server is running Panther.
* The OS9 client is 9.2.
* The OSX client is running Tiger.

Here is the problem.

When files are placed on the server by a system running 9.2, other 9.2 systems can see it fine. If you try to look for the file from an OSX client, you can’t see it.

9.2 clients have no trouble seeing files placed on the server by OSX clients, and the OSX client’s can see their own files without trouble.

If I go to the server and check the folder, all I can see are files placed on the server by OSX systems. The 9.2 files are not showing up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Extensions. OSX relies on file name extensions like .doc, .xls, .htm, etc. OS9 doesn't rely on extensions and does not add those extensions automatically.

Some OS 9 apps, like MS Offics gave the user the choice to add teh extension, but many did not and you had to manually add it. This was always a problem when sending documents to PC users. If the extension was not added, they couldn't open it.

Here's a test. Have a OS9 user add the proper extension to a document and save it. Then see if the OSX users can see it.
