I have a domain setup on my network, my server is authorative (using named)for the domain. i can access my unix box by ip but not by
all my hosts files seem to be correct, and i can access my network hosts by these names on my local net, but my nameserver does not seem to forward my domain info to other dns servers.

As far as i can tell my name server is configured to accept dns request only from my local network, and i have 1 other dns sever (my isp's) set up in the forwarders section of named.conf.

Do i need to tell my server the name of a server to pass my dns info too? What am i missing/havent done

can anyone help?

if u are authoritative for the domain, and accepting DNS quesries, then there should be no problem.. however, if u cannot connect to your machine using its hostname.. then check with Network Solutions to ensure they have the right info in their database server...as in they are pointing primary name server to your machine.... if not, change that....

if that's okay, then check your IPFW rules to ensure u are allowing DNS queries and allowing replies to go out as well... it may help to restart the IPFW rules so u can reload them...

good luck

sounds like a reverse dns problem ..if you are not authoritative for your domain then contact those who are and see if there PTR records are fine ..!!
