i have a 3 comp net. XP ME and Slack ware Linux 9.0. The Linux Box is being used as the file server for music dowlods and such using samba 2.2 i think defenantlty the newest version. it works well to access the two shraes from both xp and me but i can't write from either, i don't hav any user specific or any samba users installed niether can i add any i'm missing the smb addusr thing, if anyone could help me thanks or point me to a thread with the fix, i prefer messing with the smb.conf file over anything else or a better server software idea thats free of corse. Thanks

Hi

For samba u need the users. after modifying the smb.conf file u need to create the users by using smbadduser command.
Perhaps it will not give u the full permission for that user from other client machines.
For that u have to change the owner of user's home directory. u hav to give following
# chown user:user *
because whenever super user create any user, the super user is the first owner of that directory.
(for adding samba users the user must be present in linux os. if no, then use #useradd user)

stjude0, check the permissions on the directory you are trying to access. Look at who owns the directory and make sure that those users have write access.
