I can´t send E-mail by sendmail

sendmail is setup by default when pbx is installed

Any idea?

Thanks in advance..

First, it appears that all attempts were to the same email address. Have you tried more than one and all fail? Is it failing only for mail to your doamin, or outside, or both. Send mail while logged into you linux host using this command:
mail -v somename@somehost.com
If you are not familiar, after typing the body of the message, hit a CTRL D to end the message. Then wait. This will return details of the where the mail transaction is failing.

You said that that sendmail is set up by default when the pbx was installed. Well I would check a few things to be sure. Like is the default gateway on the system set correctly, is sendmail.cf configured correctly for your environment. For example, are you using a smarthost to relay mail is this set correctly. And if so is the smarthost been told to accept mail relay from the pbx? Is DNS set up and working properly (test with nslookup Is your domain set, and more.

If you post the result of these I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Let me know if you need more information

telnet port 25 or use nc to see if you are blocked. If you use a mail relay, also telnet to that on port 25 to see if you get a banner/connect

Is sendmail only looking for mail on the loopback device (127.0.0.1)? It should be using the ip address of interface used to access the network. Sendmail will use your network settings to find its way out to the real world but you will need to use port forwarding to direct all smtp and pop3 traffic to the server's ip address.

Thanks for you responses

I am newb, What do I have do for check that you say me

I have no idea where files are on your system so I'll speak in general term. Sendmail reads a configuration file when it starts called sendmail.cf. This file is usually not edited by hand because it is hard to read and understand. Rather, it is built from a macro compiler called m4. The file that you edit is called sendmail.mc. When you call the compiler, it takes sendmail.mc and all the other .mc files it has elswhere and compiles them into the new sendmail.cf. Here is what you need to do. First, loof for sendmail.mc and open it with your favorite text editor. Look for this line:

Code:
 DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl

this is telling sendmail to only look at the loopback device 127.0.0.1 or localhost.localdomain for mail. You can comment it out by typing 'dnl' in front of the line. You can also change 127.0.0.1 to the the ip address you want sendmail to use or just delete the line. After saving the changes, you are ready to create the new sendmail.cf file. Here is how you would do that. Keep in mind that this is just an example. You will need to change the paths and file names to match your system.

Code:
m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/mail/sendmail.cf

Some systems don't use the m4 compiler but use the 'build' command instead. let me know how things work out.

Thanks for your information.
I will ckeck that next tuesday...

Sorry for later...

I modified sendmail.cf and sendmail.mc:
Sendmail.cf:
# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DSsmtp.reyent.com.mx

sendmail.mc:
dnl define(`SMART_HOST', `smtp.reyent.com.mx')dnl

dnl MASQUERADE_AS(`reyent.com.mx')dnl

then, restart sendmail..

Now I can send e-mail to user@reyent.com.mx, but...
I can´t to another account like hotmail, terra. gmail. etc..

How do I can to do it?

This is that I received:

You need to go to the system you defined as the smart host and tell it that it is permited to relay mail from the system(s) you will be using to send mail to it from. For instance, on unix there is typically a file relay-domains in /etc/mail. In this file you put in the ip address or domains of the PC's (?) or other system that will be sending mail via this host. This tells the smarthost that this email is not a malicious relay (spam), and that it is ok to pass it on. If the smarthost is on unix be sure to refresh sendmail after you make these changes.
