I am trying to upgrade my BDC serve

I am trying to upgrade my BDC server from windowsNT 4.0 to windows 2000 server but i do not want to use active directory. Is this Possibele? and if it is how do you do this as I have tried and i cannot login in windows 2000 now.

I would appreciate as much help as possible
