I am trying to send an email to this particular domain. I always get a delayed delivery notification and then the message comes back after a few days. I did a check DNS on the domain I am trying to send to. Some of their MX records are not set right. I know that in Exchange 5.5 under the internet mail service properties under connections you can specify email by domain. I wanted to do this but I am running a Exchange 2000 server and I am unable to find any such option. I wanted to do this on Exchange so that I can put in the IP addrress of one of the other mail servers which responded correctly and route all outbound mail going to this domain via this IP instead of using DNS.

Does anyone know where I would set this in Exchange 2000?.
I have this article from MS:

I am not sure if this is what I need to do.

Thanks

Honestly... contact the admin on the destination domain and have them fix their MX record.... you shouldn't have to do any of this silly stuff for general delivery.

Yes I agree with you. None of their admins are easy to reach and these people are a vendor to us to it is absolutely essential that I get this working. I configured this the way the article stated it. Do I have to enable smart hosts?. I already have an SMTP Connector set to * for the entire organization. Adding the second one will not affect anything will it?. My goal is to tell the server that if anyone from my organization sends an email out to this domain then relay the message using the specific IP address.

I don't believe that it will hurt the existing one. Most Exchange 2000 systems that I deal with don't have one at all. They just automatically send based on the Global configuration.
