I am responsible for setting up an Exchange2K system on a new, all W2K network. I have my machine behind a PIX firewall, and the domain/MX info is correct at UUNET. I am not an ExchAdmin, so all this is new to me. I am at the point that I can send mail user-to-user on the network, and can send mail from the inside out. When I send mail from outside in, here is what I get as a bounce-back:

<admin@mycom.com>:
xx.xxx.xxx.xxx does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for
admin@mycom.com
Giving up on xx.xxx.xxx.xxx.

I can telnet to xx.xxx.xxx.xxx 25 from both inside and outside the firewall. I'm sure this is something simple, but I just can't figure what it is.... Any help for someone desparately trying to muddle his way thru this would be greatly appreciated!!

TIA,
Fred

When you send mail outside in you get a failure, but it doesn't fail when you use telnet straight to Exchange?

That points at either the ISP or the Pix. Check first if the Pix rejects port 25 (try telnetting to your server from the Internet). It could be an MX record issue - check that out at samspade.org

that was it!!! my MX record was pointing to the wrong place! thanks for the lead.....
