There is only 1 Linux. The kernel. What you mean is a distribution; the bundling of the Linux kernel + software + utilities. I'm a PHP developer myself. Used Fedora all the way from version 1 to 7. Recommend it to all my customers. Although Ubuntu has a server edition targeted as a quick, lean LAMP platform. Not for the unseasoned Linux people.

you should be OK.
Fedora is a good choice, Fedora-7 is the most resent version.
You might want to ditch the F5 you have in favor of F7.
You will find webserver, PHP, IDE software etc. in the
package manager system for your chosen distro.
Check out the distros homepage, wiki and forum for details.
For me I am a huge Gentoo fan. I think it is bordering on one of the harder installs as far as Linux goes but it builds everything up and you have allot more customization.
For me I went with Gentoo from day one and found that I learned allot more about Linux by doing a manual install than by just sticking a disc and and using a Gui.
