Hi

I am looking to write a report, to explain to my boss that I need to be taken on permanently, unfortunatley I am stuck for words, does anyone have a guideline, tp help with this situation.

The company is about 40 pc users, with no permanent IT support, apart from a £13000 pa contract outsurced, this does not include softwarre support, or proovide a proactive hardware procurment policy. As things are just bought ad hoc. I have the necessary experience, apart from networking. ALthough I know somethings. The company providing support provide some tuition, over a couple of days.

Can anyone other some ideas

As far as can see, you need to include in your report some tangible examples of what's not going right at the moment. Delays, incompatibilities in equipment due to the piecemeal nature of equipment procurement etc might all be included in this. However, don't let it all be negative - give instances where you've performed perhaps above expectations and give your boss solution scenarios to the difficulties you have identified. Express an interest in further training and (without being too critical of the current outsourcer) tell him/her that in the medium term you expect to be able to allow the contract to be reduced to a minimum (assuming you feel confident in this and it's in your remit, and always remembering the assistance available here at tek-tips!). If your boss sees this as a money-saving opportunity as opposed to anything else, you have a better chance.

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

managers love money $$

show them the money, show them the saving, and you're in with a fighting chance. price up the cost of your network training - the easiest way to do this is to price up a cert (Comptia Network + maybe?). If you're prepared to pay some of the cost, or do the training in your own time, that's another ribbon to your bow.

managers also like enthusiasm!
