I want to use my internal Domino mail server to send SMTP messages from an external internet address "myname@myinternet.com". When I try to do this, my server does not allow the connection. Does anyone know what could be failing here? Can anyone point me to a log that has more detail as to what is being denied? (I checked log.nsf and it is too brief to be useful).

Domino (5.012) server: MyMailServer
Domain: MyDomain

My Inbound Relay Controls:

1. Allow messages from external internet domains to be sent only to the following internet domains: "MyDomain"

2. Deny messages from external internet domains to be sent to the following internet domains: "*"

3. Allow messages only from the following external internet hosts to be sent to external internet domains: "myexternalinternet.com"

4. Deny messages from the following external internet hosts to be sent to external internet domains: "*"

Hello,

Try adding your remote SMTP Server IP to the "Exclude these Server hosts from anti-relay checks". And make sure to surround the IP in brackets (i.e. [192.168.1.1])

This can be found in Router/SMTP, Restrictions and Controls, SMTP inbound controls in the Configuration Document.

Once the change has been made, type "tell router update config" at the console and test.

Rgds,

John

If your still stuck have you got your servers listed in both of the following?

SMPT Inbound Controls tab:
Inbound Connection Controls section:
Allow connections only from the following SMTP internet hostnames/IP addresses: "Add servers here"

Inbound Relay Controls section:
Allow messages only from the following internet hosts to be sent to external internet domains: "Add servers here

Here is another method.

This information is based on the fact that your domain name is abc.com

1. Edit your hosts file on the SMTP server(I do not have DNS) and add the IP address of the machine that you wish to grant access to. Give this machine the name name.abc.com (It must have the abc.com added)
2. On your SMTP server find the field "Allow connections only from the following SMTP internet hostnames/IP addresses:" and add this host name to it.

Eh Volia! You will not be able to use your SMTP server as a mini open relay(but only for that one PC)

Regards
