I accidentally turned off my laptop with NT4 with SP6 and on restart, it runs chkdsk after memory check.
It restarts after chkdsk (I think after deleting some files, not sure), it gone into a blue screen after memory check saying can't load the dll for winsrv.

I tried various thing including starting the last known hardware profile and VGA mode, but with no luck.

I tried NTFSDOS PRO, and I did manage to mount the NTFS partition, but when I tried to

Code:
xcopy /s d:\winnt\profiles\userID\applic~1\identi~1\{53ce1~1\micros~1\outloo~1\ c:\oe

where
Code:
c:
is a
Code:
FAT
partition, the machine restarts itself.

Code:
cd d:\winnt\profiles\userID\applic~1\identi~1\{53ce1~1\micros~1\outloo~1\
also cause the machine to reboot but
Code:
xcopy /s d:\winnt\profiles\userID\applic~1\identi~1\{53ce1~1\micros~1
succeeded and listed
Code:
outloo~1
. Trying to do file lising on the outloo~1 (outlook express) also cause the machine to reboot.

Basically, I just want to savage my mail before system reinstall. How could I do it safely and quickly?

I guess I could go for Repair option with the setup disk but I don't have a repair disk saved.

Can you copy one file without it rebooting? If you can, painstakingly copy your profile piece by piece instead of in one big go.

If you go for the repair, I am wondering whether it would fix it proper or 'repair' it beyond use. -----------------------------------------------------

why not install NT into a different folder like /winNEW without reformatting and then you can drag and drop whatever you like.
