I have created a document in which the text is justified. However, it won't let me hyphenate. I go to the Type menu and Hyphenation and turn on the Hyphenation but it will only let me click on Manual only (the other 2 options are grey). Any changes that I make in the Hyphenation zone does not make any difference in my document. I have other documents which are justified and which have hyphenation and they have allowed me to select Hyphenation plus dictionary. I am in a position where text is stretching across the column with ridiculous amount of spacing when the word below could be brought up and hyphenated. Can anyone help?

Hi, Darinka,

Hit Ctr+M
Do you have "force justify" selected for the paragraph? and do you have a language selected for ther paragraph?

John,
No it's not force-justified. It's just justified and the language selected is US English. I've never had this problem in any of my documents ... this one seems to have a mind of it's own!
Any further suggestions?
Linda

Hi, Linda,

Did you import the text from, say, Word?
Are you using the style palette to format the troublesome some text?

What you can do is select the problematic text, cut it and paste it into Notepad.

The select all the text in Notepad, cut'n'paste it back into PM, and re-apply the style.

Notepad will strip out any formatting and "clean up" the text.

Big John,
Thanks for your advice. I went back and changed the language to UK English and surprise surprise my hyphenation problem was solved. Apparently when I installed the program I selected UK english so when the text was under US English it didn't know where to hyphenate. Thanks for your advice, I never would have thought of that.
Cheers

Hi, Darinka,

I'm pleased you've solved it.

You can install other language dictionaries easily enough but changing the language of PM requires complete removal and a fresh install. You can tell if you have the American or the English version installed by the spelling of "colour" and "centre" in menus.
