one of our plants had the pbx examiner die, so it was replaced with a us robotics modem.

I am trying to connect to the meridian 11c, but I just get a blank screen, no login prompt.

I have the settings identical to what I have for the sites that have the pbx examiner.

would I need different hyperterminal settings to make it work this way?

or is it something with the modem?
dipswitch settings on the modem maybe?

Did you set the speed on the Modem the same as the switch?

USR Modem setup for Nortel.
Plugin your laptop to the modem using a modem cable.
Type ATZ. You should get an OK prompt.
If not change out your cable to a NULL modem cable and
try the ATZ command again.

Set switches: 1, 3, 7, & 8 DOWN. All others UP
Enter: AT&B1&W&W1 (OK when done).
Set Switches: 1, 4, & 7 down. All other UP. Recycle power.
Plug your Port 0 cable into the modem (without any adaptors).
Done.

DocVic: I will give that a shot.
thanks.

AceWarlock: no, I have only been adjusting the settings on my laptop for hyperterminal.
how do I know the speed of the switch?

pbx examiner was a go between box that did the speed adjusting. when you use a plain modem, everything needs to be set the same. In LD 22 prt you ADAN and see what the TTY's are set for and then set the modem the same. usually they are set for 9600,8,N,1

is that switch an opt 11? the speed of the 1st port is set by the switch settings on the ssc card. larger switches use a paddle board or msdl card.. they can be hard or soft. 90 percent of nortel switches are 8, none and 1 at 9600.. a few are 7, space and even.. very few i've seen are still at 300 or 1200 baud

As JP said, is the modem on Port 0? if so set the modem the same as the dip switchs on SSC card. The cable the modem is connected to has a sticker with the Port number on it.

Did this work? If so, what rel.? do you have. I have 18.3 and the string is not working for me using a U.S. Robotics 33.6 sportster fax modem
