hyperterminal + modem = connection serial console port

Hi everybody !!

I'm not sure if this is the right forum .. .sorry !. Ok. I have a laptop that it hasnt a serial port but it has a modem (com3) I want to connect my laptop to a switch via console port (RS-232) to manage it. Can i connect my laptop with hyperterminal and the modem to the switch?

If the switch is looking for serial, unmodulated data, then no, the modulated data from the modem (MOdulator, DEModulator) will not provide the appropriate signal. That being said, you 'may' be able to connect an auto-answer modem to the serial port of your switch and dial in to it from your portable's modem.
