Hello,

I have a headless Ultra 60 that I would like to access using Hyperterminal 6.3. I have the 25pin to 9 pin Null cable Modem connected to the serial port A on the Sun machine. I can get no info, or prompt or error message from my SUN box to display on the Hyperterminal display to my PC. What are the display settings supposed to be on the HypeTerm side? I am using com 3 right now, and a vt100 display from HypeTerm. Any procedures I could try?

Thanks much!

- Chris

Baud = 9600
data bits = 8
Parity = none
Stop bits = 1
Flow Control = None

Try using Comm 1 and 2 if 3 does not work.

Still no luck, I have Com1 and Com3 available, but for some reason I do not have Com2 available. Nothing displays with these settings either.

Any special considerations with the Ultra booted up, during boot with regards to connecting via Hyperterminal?

Thanks for the response, I do appreciate it!

- Chris

Are you sure you have a Null Modem cable? If so, have you tried just a straight serial 9 pin to 25 pin serial cable?

What I have is a 6' Belkin 9pin (PC side) to 25pin (Sun side, port A 25pin serial connection) Null Modem cable that can also be used as a serial port cable.(?)

I've also tried just a straight 9pin to 25 pin serial cable.

I have my keyboard\mouse disconnected from the SUN machine, I have two serial ports on the back of the Ultra (A\B), so perhaps I need a 'Y' cable? I have my settings indicated like you mentioned with vt100 emulation .

A null modem cable connected to serial port A is what you want, so it sounds like the cable isn't right.... Annihilannic.

What is the pin configuration for a null modem cable from a PC to a Sun? Looks like I need an education on this one, then.

it would be easier to go to Office Max or something and buy a 9 ping d-sub Null Modem connector.

I am not sure about pin placement but I am sure you can do a google search for it.

Sounds like a plan, I contacted Radio Shack up here, and they have the null cable adapters, that will connect to my serial cable. I'll give that a try and see if that works. Today is one of those days that when I scratch my head, I get slivers in my fingers! ;)
