Hi,

I've created a User's Manual in InDesign. I have a series of "links" on a particular page that is really text that looks like links.

Here's the action I'm trying to create. When the user clicks on the link, I'd like to open a particular file so the user can look at it. Some files are PDFs and others are ZIP files.

What the best method for doing that? At first I thought it would be the Hyperlink feature, but I don't know how to specify my destination as being networked files.

Any advice? I also thought about buttons, but creating buttons is not really the route I want to take.

The files will basically be linked to this manual to accompany it as the user reads it.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I find out how to accomplish this. Its relatively easy.

1. Create your text as normal, then highlight it.
2. In the Hyperlinks palette, select "New Hyperlink from URL". ID will create a hyperlink.
3. Double-click on the hyperlink from within the Hyperlink palette, and that opens the window.
4. Modify the URL selection to point to the location where you need the file to open from.

The thing that was hanging me up was ID's use of the word "URL", which in this case can also represent stand-alone files.

Hope this helps.
