Hyperlink to a file on Network

I am trying to create links to several files located on our network. When you open the linked file, it opens in the browser. I need it to open in the application the file was created in. I can't believe that I can't do this. Any ideas?

The files I am linking to are Wordperfect and Quartro Pro files as well as some Word and Excel files.

dont know about wordperfect or quatro pro but with word and excel it cant be done.
you have to rightclick,save as, then open it...
