Hyper-V - vCPU Allocation

Hi, I have a Dell T630 with 2x Intel Xeon E5-2620 CPUs with a total of 32 logical processors, (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v4 @ 2.10GHz, 2098 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)). Is the rule of thumb that I can assign as many guest vCPUs as processors on the host?

Yes, however you will also need to ensure around 4GB and a couple of cores is left for the host OS as well. It seems you also have hyper threading enabled. Make sure you only allocate on physical cores and not virtual threaded processors.

So, I have 16 physical cores - 4 for the host = 12 cores to allocate for vCPUs?

yes - however I recommend two cores / VM other wise they run like poo.

So, virtual threaded processors = logical processors.
