I've been searching on the Cisco website to see what does it mean for a switch to be hybrid but I haven't found an exact answer.

Can someone please explain the concept of making a switch a "hybrid switch"? I know that a hybrid routing protocol is when you're using attributes of both a distance-vector and link state routing protocols, such as EIGRP.

Thanks

Caryn

Perhaps you're thinking of hybrid mode on a 6500 series switch. In hybrid mode, the supervisor modules on the switch run CatOS while the routing component, configured separately, runs IOS. In native mode, you have a single IOS interface.

Basically as previously said the Supervisor (layer 2 side
) runs what is called catos and the routing side (layer 3 ) runs what is called IOS . You have to confgiure both sides to have the switch/router work correctly.
