I am using a Logitech Wingman Joystick with Flight Sim 2004, a problem has developed that I have traced by the Event viewer and the Services that produces the following statement

Could not start the Human Interface Device Access service Error 126: The specified module could not be found

Service Name HidServ

Path to executable K:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

When I check the path shown for svchost.exe the programme is there!

What is the best way to clear this error?

Let me suggest you be slightly more aggressive about this than micker377 suggested.

First, unplug the device. Then boot into Safe Mode.
View, check "all hidden devices."
Go to the HID tree, and uninstall every single device.
Reboot.

Second, apply all relevant USB pathches. I reviewed the current ones this week here: thread779-696245

Third, install the software

Fourth, plug in the device.

Sorry about the delay in replying, the solution to my problem used both of your suggestions, I formatted the partition containing a duff XP OS, re-installed Windows, made sure I had all the latest USB updates, and reloaded Flight Sim, everything back to normal.

Thank you both.

Although your problem has already been solved, this page comes up frequently at the top of Google searches and I just had the same exact problem myself and after some digging found a simpler solution from this site:
Basically what it says to do is to go into the i386 drive of your Windows XP CD and open up Drivers.cab (On my CD it was just called driver.cab) and then look for three files and extract them to your System32 folder in the Windows folder.

hidserv.dll
mouhid.sys
mouclass.sys

Once these files are there I had no problem starting this service.
