ok, this is really bad.
i had (emphasize had) a table that contained between 10,000 and 15,000 records, and an autonumber field that was set to start at 10,012. well the table is still there this morning, but none of the data that was in the table last night remains. and to make matters worse, the autonumber field defaults to 1 if i try to enter a new record.
there is a "msysCompacting_Error" table in the database now that wasn't there before that contains an error message.

this table contained all the really important info for the company.

is there anyway (other than a back-up of the database which hasn't been done in a long time) to recover this information from some sort of temp file or anything?
this is really a bad, bad thing, and ANY help would be appreciated immensely.
Brian Famous
bfamous@ncdoi.net

Hi Brian,

no i don't know of any special backup file/table mind you the way the file sizes grow, someone else may know more!

i take it you mean that there are no record in the table ie the 1 means that this is now the first record in the table?

a long shot

the only other posible copy might be in the win swap file but may well be trashed by now. if not, dont disable it and reboot! boot in dos mode change the attributes and copy the file. if it nt there are utilities to allow you to gain access to an ntfs form a dos type boot disk.

sorry but i wasn't very helpful

see ya
RobertD

ps if nothing else maybe management might find a few dollars to add a raid array and implement a backup policy!

find some friends and start hacking to see what data arrays are in the file
