my C:\Program Files is about 6 gigs(sure thats understandable for most people but I know I dont have that much) then I traced it down to common files, but thats not where it was, the folder that held 5 Gigs was

C:\Program Files\Common files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\

two of the folders under that hold about 2.5Gigs each, named
\20000619.039
and
\20000622.018

My question is it ok to delete some of those folders, as some of the folders under them say TMP*..., but I am thinking there is no way that my virus definitions are 5 gigs.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
Hmm.., your safest bet is probably to move the files somewhere else eg. C:\TEMP\20000619.039 and C:\TEMP\20000622.018

If everything runs smoothly for a few days then delete them, if not then move them back.

In my experience any filename.tmp can usually be deleted without any problem.

I went to Norton's site, and it states that sometimes AV doesnt delete the older definitions, in which case delete all folders, except for the 2 newest

YearMonthDay/

also the files that were takin space in those folders were *.tmp, so i deleted those, everything works fine now, cant belive it never cleaned those up.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
