For the last year I have been playing with a "super" database.
To put this in perspective the normalised data tables alone with one or two lines of sample data swell the database to around 1 meg. There are no pictures in the database.
This has caused interesting design problems, such as the relationship window becoming so cluttered it is impossible to see which table is related to what clearly.
The purpose of the database is in fact four distinct functions with a host of spin offs.
I am looking for a database design tool. I have been using paper, tried one computer modelling tool, however, it wasn't much better than paper.
What I really need I think is a three dimensional design tool, or a method to design in three dimensions.
My current thoughts are to put the common tables in one database. For example Client details, stock details, and supplier details.
To then construct four other databases containing the specific tables for the four distinct areas.
Develop the front ends for the four areas, and then bring the whole lot by links and imports into another database as a complete unit.
Does anyone know of a three dimensional modelling tool?
