A little background - I have a prosteel model that I have x-ref'ed into another drawing. The drawing contains a titleblock and the model is clipped for a plan view.

Now the problem - The file size of this drawing is more than 70 MB!! It shouldn't be anymore than 500k, I have erased everything in the drawing and purged it. There is absolutely nothing visible in this drawing. By the way I use Architectural Desktop . The wierd thing is - if I wblock or even copy clip so much as a single line, the block/clip is the same size as the drawing!! I'm really in a crunch here and I'm gonna miss my deadline because of this. Does anyone have any clue as to what could be the problem? I did an audit and it said no errors but it did scan something like 1,200,000 objects. I have no idea what these could be or how to find out. Please someone help!!! Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a block problem or possibly vast quantities of x-data.

I trust you have checked for objects on frozen / off layers and outside the drawing limits.

You may try typing in “xdata” and when asked for an application type anything you want. This will give an indication of how much data is recorded within the drawing. Be sure to press escape!

Pete.

Pete,

Thanks for replying. Let's see...I know it's not a block problem because there are no blocks. I basically saved the drawing in another directory and erased everything in it. I tried xdata but there is nothing to select so I just drew a line and did it on that but it was only 7 bytes of info to append. Any other suggestions...thanks again for the reply.

Try wblocking out the visable objects to a new drawing. That might solve youre problem as blocking it out will only select the visable on-screen items leaving all the other junk.

Is Prosteel another CAD software? Are the files in a .dwg or .dxf format? Have you tried deleting the xclip to see if the file size is reduced?
