If I have a Cable Modem and want to set up a home network with it. Will a hub work to share the internet access or do I HAVE to buy a Router?

You'll need a router. I would purchase a Linksys Router/Switch. ====================================

No, you won't need a router. It's the preferred method, but you can certainly use a hub to network the PCs together. Win ME, 2K and XP all have internet connection sharing which is quite easy to set up.

Correct, a hub would work or he could just purchase a second NIC for one of the computers. I was just suggesting what I would do. ====================================

I personally would go with a router. I have a linksys 4port and have used a Netgear RT314 4 port as well and both have worked fine.

The only thing Im curious about with using a hub is if you have to have to dynamic (or is it static) IP's on your account in order for it to work.
