Hi,

We have a web interface I wrote which utilises AJAX.

It works fine, has done for over a year, HOWEVER!

The boss has started complaining that the tool doesn't work , sure enough when I checked, the AJAX calls are not returning.

Now the interesting thing is, it all works fine on every other machine in the company, only they are XP machines with IE8, his is Vista Business with IE8.

So I thought first i'd try rolling back to IE7, but still no joy.

At lunch I went home and tested on my own PC running Windows 7 & IE8, all worked fine, in fact the speed blew me away!

So when I got back to the office I booted my work machine into Vista Business (I dual boot XP & Vista).

low and behold, my Vista machine with IE7 has exactly the same problem, the AJAX doesn't return, and even when you get fed up and try to refresh the browser to reload the entire page it just sits there hanging / egg timing, in the end you have to kill the browser session.

So is there an issue with Vista and HTTP requests? why on earth could this be happening to ONLY vista machines.

Is there a Vista AJAX bug, or could this be related to the way Vista sends the UserAgent credentials compared to XP / Windows 7

Any advice as to what on earth could be the problem is appreciated.

Thanks,

Found the problem, don't know why it was only affecting Vista machines the way it was but...

it's AVG 9 , finally trawlled through the event logs and found where AVG had been upgraded from v8.5 to v9, as well as a Visuall c++ 2005 redistributable.

Uninstalled AVG and the accompanying C++ msiinstaller, and bingo everything is working fine agan.

so big warning to everyone out there steer clear of AVG!
