If I deny Apache access to the internet, why do I still have httpd listed in my task manager? Is it listening on Port 80 or does it go to the internet anyway because when it had been running in my task manager, I would get a hit on my firewall that said httpd incoming, and then all my other firewall hits after that would register backwards. Now that I always kill the process that doesn't happen.

Thanks in advance for any information that you could give me regarding this.

Why not ? It is a running process, so it appears in the process list.

Sorry, there is too much of your theory, I do not understand your problem. Better explain briefly what you want.

If you want to be sure malicious requests does not reach the web server, block the incoming connections in your firewall.

Note that Tek-Tips may have a forum dedicated to your firewall software. Try searching for.

Feherke.

When you installed apache, did you install it as a service? If so it will sstart at bootup. You can keep killing it or uninstall it as a service. If you want it to run but not receive internet requests, you can block port 80 on your firewall and/or have httpd listen to 127.0.0.1 instead of the ip associated with eth0.
