Hello guys,

I just installed redhat 9 with all the server components. I want to run a web server so I started up http server and I added a virtual host. Well when i try to go to the domain name or the ip address of that virtual host that i created, I get the stupid "test page for apache running on red hat linux." I don't know how to get my damn web content to come up. I placed the directory that contains the web content under /var/ Then i made sure that the root directory for the virtual directory that i created also points to the same path. I still don't get anything other than the darn "test page". Any ideas what I may be missing.

Thanks for all the help and Happy New Year!! to Everyone.

Make sure that your 'DocumentRoot' directive points to the correct location and make sure that you have an 'index.htm' file there.

Already checked that. Everything there is correct. Any other ideas??

If you're trying to use Name based virtual hosts, make sure the appropriate directives are set - see this forums faq's.

No, am trying to use ip based virtual hosts.

You'll have to post the relavent parts of your httpd.conf to go any further. If you do that, you should also move the disussion to forum65.

Ok, here is somthing that i just figured out. If i open an explorer page and go to then the web content comes up. Other wise if i just go to i get the apache test page. Now, i made sure that index.html is one of the default page extensions to look for. So now i see that all teh settings are correct but why is it not defaulting to opening the page with the extension specified? Any other ideas as to what this could be.

Thnaks,
