What kind of entry in DNS /Bind (Windows 2000 actually) makes the server answer when someone only asks for
Or is that a technology other than DNS making that happen?

I have wondered this for years. ...............................

I thought it was a "feature" of the browser making the assumption that there is a front of the domain name. I vaguely remember MS making a big deal that one of the new browser releases did this.
