hi.....

i would like to get some assistance on troubleshooting IIS 6.0 for running web site. My asp web site is deployed on Win 2003 Server (\inetpub\ running IIS 6.0. It was running smoothly until last week. Now whenever i try to access it, it prompts for user name and password. Bypassing the user name/password results in displaying the following error message:

Error Message
=============
You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

Can anyone suggest how can i fix this problem?

Your problem is most likely related to one of the two following causes:

1 - Permissions are not correct in IIS. To check, and repair if necessary, open the IIS console, and navigate to the file or directory in question. Right click it and choose 'properties' > 'Directory Security'. Ensure that you have 'read' checked at least. The click on the authentication button, and ensure that anonomous access is checked.

2 - The flies themselves do not have the correct permissions. in explorer, browse to the file or folder in question, right click, and go to the 'security' tab. ensure that the correct permissions are set.
