I am running into this in both CR8.5 developer and CR XI pro. Both are using GoldMine as a backend. CR8.5 dev is using GoldMine CE 6.7 with SQL 2000 SP4 and the CR XI is using GoldMine Premium (version 8) and SQL 2005.

I am inserting notes into my reports and GoldMine uses IE for html notes. I insert my note field in and right click on it and then select html as text interpretation but all of the html headers and body code are still displaying.

I am thinking that there should be some sort of way to use a formula while records are printing that can just display the body of the notes and strip off the rest but am totally clueless about how to do that.

any ideas?

thanks!!!

CR8.5 HTML editor is very poor and does not recognise most of the current HTML code.

In a project about 2 years ago using CR9 we had to use a product which first converted the HTML to RTF and then used CRs RTF interpretor which is much better.

Tell me about it! CR 8.5 turns itself off trying to translate the most current html code.

CR XI however should be just fine and I dont understand why it isnt working. I thought I checked and it was R2. I recall the first release of XI had some probs.

I had an idea about creating a formula that grabs everything between <body> </body> and then writing a formula using replace in the paragraph formatting to get rid of <p> and <br> and such and I realize it wouldnt be 100% and a p.i.t.a to write to include as many tags as possible. only I have no idea of how it would look.

or easier yet - is there a way at runtime to convert the html field into text like using totext({table.notefield})?

Provided the field is not too big (ie not a memo field), you should be able to use the Replace function.

replace({htmlField},"<p>", "")

sadly it is a memo field.

I just looked at the content= on these notes and it is MSHTML, not html or text/html so it explains why CR 8.5 is in the toilet. but why would CRXI do that? shouldnt that be able to handle that type of text conversion?

Not sure but I think you will find that BO have not really got much of an interest in supporting HTML interpretor. So the range of HTML it can handle is probably that much advanced on CR9.

YOu may have to consider converting to RTF as I did.

This was the one I used.
