HTML Parameter to Applet/Servlet: then receive a string(name)

I need to pass an Integer to an Applet or Servlet. Then
recieve back the String(name)

I don't want to display a new HTML page. Just get the name
and display it on the screen.

Should I try to use a cookie.
IDunno Please help especally a simple coding example for the
HTML/JavaScript and the Java.
